The heat pumps are energy-savers. Heat pumps can transfer up to 3 units of heat for every 1 unit of electricity. A heat pump does not generate heat through natural gas combustion or electric coils. A heat pump uses only electricity to power the compressor fan and blower fan in winter and summer. Because a single heat pump system can perform both heating AND cooling functions simultaneously, separate furnace and A/C units are not required.

Here are the year-round operations of heat pumps:

Summer

A heat pump works in summer just like a central air conditioner. The indoor coil takes heat from warm air and compresses it into heat energy. It then disperses that heat into the outdoor coil or ground using a geothermal heat transfer. Cool comfort is what’s left indoors.

Winter

The heat pump turns in winter. An air-source system uses latent heat energy from cold outdoor air to extract it. It is then compressed and transferred inside to be released inside by the indoor coil. To heat the house, the blower fan distributes the heat through the conduit. The house will stay warm if the outdoor air is kept below freezing. The heat pump activates small backup furnaces and electric coils to provide additional heat if outdoor temperatures drop further.

Underground temperatures are usually around 55 degrees all year in most places. This energy source is used by geothermal heating pumps in winter. Underground tubes that are buried in either a vertical or horizontal configuration circulate heat exchange fluid which absorbs heat from the earth and then transfers it to an indoor heating pump. The heat is then concentrated by a compressor and released by an indoor coil. It’s then dispersed through household ductwork using a blower fan.

Our Portable Heat Pumps deliver about 3 times more heat per unit of electricity than other electric heaters, and they’re the safest of all heaters since they eliminate fire danger. Our rental units plug into regular electrical outlets. Despite the name, heat pumps are not just for heating. They are a fairly recent technology using air conditioning systems to produce both cooling and heating. A portable heat pump looks like a Spot Cooler, but it will also deliver heat, at the touch of a remote switch or a thermostat.
